Who uses WASSR
Our service is free of charge and not means tested. The need for advocacy is universal – all sorts of people, regardless of their income education or intelligence can find themselves in need of advocacy at a particular point in their lives. Part of our work is to empower people to be able to advocate for themselves in the future.
In order to ensure we reach those most in need we target our outreach to the deprived areas of Westminster.
Most of WASSR’s work is supporting people living in their own homes in the community who have been referred by health or social service professionals or by other voluntary groups. We have also received funding to support groups living in residential care homes, nursing homes or hospital, and we are always interested in discussing new ways of providing advocacy to group with particular needs.
We conduct a regular survey of the people who have used our service. From this we know that 95% of our users contacted are very satisfied with the service 2% have had criticisms to make. On more than one occasion this has related to the level of advocate feedback to clients on case progress and this is one of the reasons we expect our advocates to report regularly and participate in supervision. Comments from our users are used to make improvements to our practice and our training.
