What is advocacy?

Advocacy is about enabling people to

Older people have every right to be in charge of their own lives. But sometimes frailty, disability, financial circumstances or social attitudes can lead to older people having very limited choices or opportunity to take decisions about their own lives. Advocates listen to what someone wants and then support them in getting their voice heard and having their views recognised.

Who can be an advocate?

An advocate can be anyone who is willing and able to make a voluntary commitment to speaking up for their client and supporting their wishes. Advocates come from a wide range of background and interests and they are supported in doing this work by high quality training and supervision.
