The Dementia Advocacy Network
Who is it for?
The network is for people working in dementia advocacy who wish to take part in a forum to discuss issues, share ideas and learn from each other’s experience. Meetings are held every other month and offer advocates a chance to gain support from colleagues experiencing the same challenges. We often invite guest speakers in a relevant field to provide up to date information that members will find useful in their work. Members also take part by providing presentations and case study workshops.
Training and Support
The Network provides training for new and experienced advocates designed to explore the challenges and seek practical solutions to this developing and specialised area of advocacy.
Our BME (Black and Minority Ethnic) Outreach Worker also provides training to support advocacy schemes to be more inclusive and for those in the BME community on dementia advocacy.
We also provide over–the-phone support so if you have a specific query about a piece of advocacy work you can contact the DAN on 020 7297 9384.
The DAN Newsletter
The Network welcomes advocates from all over the UK. Meetings are mainly held in London but we try to have regional meetings also to enable greater access. The newsletter aims to keep members in touch with the world of advocacy and dementia alongside information about network meetings and other events. Contributions from members are welcomed.
Dementia Advocacy Good Practice Guidance
Through sharing our advocacy experiences, discussion and debate the network seeks to explore and establish the principles of good practice and provide guidance for those working in this still developing field of advocacy.
An order form for our latest publication ‘Developments in Dementia Advocacy’ is available on our website.
If you would like more information about advocacy for people with dementia or the network and training events please contact Jan Kendall at WASSR/DAN on 020 7297 9384 or dan@wassr.org
